Hand-stripping
Hand-stripping is a specialized grooming technique designed for wire-haired and coarse-coated dog breeds. Instead of cutting the coat with clippers, our groomers gently removes dead outer hairs by hand (or with a stripping knife), allowing a healthier, stronger coat to grow in. This method preserves the dog’s natural coat texture, rich colour, and water-resistant qualities which is something that clipping alone cannot achieve.

How oftern should you Hand-strip ?
Most wire-coated dogs benefit from hand-stripping every 6–12 weeks, depending on the breed, coat growth cycle, and desired appearance. Regular sessions keep the coat in proper condition and prevent uncomfortable buildup of dead hair.
Benefits of Hand-Stripping Over Clipping

-
Maintains proper coat texture
Hand-stripping keeps the coat coarse, wiry, and true to the breed standard, while clipping softens and can damage texture over time. -
Preserves coat color and vibrancy
Removing dead hairs allows new, richly colored hairs to come in. Clipping fades color and can cause dullness. -
Promotes healthy skin
Dead hair pulled from the follicle stimulates new growth and improves circulation, reducing the risk of irritation and buildup. -
Supports natural protection
Wire coats are designed to be weather-resistant. Hand-stripping keeps this protective layer intact—clipping removes this ability. -
Reduces shedding
Because dead hairs are physically removed, hand-stripped dogs shed less around the home.
Hand-stripping is the preferred method for maintaining a healthy, functional, and breed-correct coat. Whether you own a terrier, schnauzer, or any wire-coated breed, consistent hand-stripping helps your dog look and feel their best.
